Lt.Col. Mahendra Singh Dhoni came to Rashtrapati Bhavan in his army uniform to accept India’s third- highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan. He marched upto President Ram Nath Kovind and everyone swelled with pride. The Indian Territorial Army had conferred the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel to Dhoni on November 1, 2011, months after India won their second World Cup under his leadership. The 36 year old MS Dhoni proved he is much more than just cricket with his stance.
Billiards player Pankaj Advani was conferred with Padma Bhushan along with MS Dhoni.
Sakshi Dhoni was present at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to cheer husband and they got clicked with PM Narendra Modi and others. Dhoni was awarded Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, in 2009.
The cutest picture of the event was Ziva Dhoni wearing the maroon beret of 106 Parachute Regiment as Dhoni smiles.
The day is historic in its own right as this very day seven years ago, India had lifted the World Cup Trophy under Dhoni’s captaincy. Dhoni took to Instagram to express his gratitude, “An honour to get the Padma Bhushan and receiving it in Uniform increases the excitement ten folds. Thanks to all the Men and Women in Uniform and their families for the Sacrifices they make so that all of us could enjoy our Constitutional Rights. Jai Hind.”
