Last year, GC announced the retention policies and the revised salary caps ahead of the 2018 IPL auction. Under pre-auction retention, a franchise could retain a maximum of three players from their previous squad and those names won’t be a part of the IPL auction. A franchise can retain or use RTM for a maximum of three players in the auction. Two teams are returning this season, Chennai Super Kings & Rajasthan Royals.
