Casting Couch In Bollywood Is Much More Than What You Think It Is

The desperateness on one end, and surplus of power & talent on the other end has led to the ‘casting couch’ in the film industry. But the fact that casting couch happens at various levels has always been an unknown truth as hardly anyone opens up with their casting experiences. The truth is usually suffocated under the sheets.

According to Tisca Chopra, “It’s a question of supply and demand. The supply of actors is far greater than their demand and so the directors and producers demand something extra for giving chances to aspirants, I have never heard of anybody raping anyone.”

Tisca Chopra recalled an incident where she “called the bluff” of a filmmaker who had such intentions, Chopra said she “devised a cunning plan and managed to escape from the situation”. ”You call their bluff and say I am better than this, ‘I can do this on my own merit’.” She added

It ain’t just the actresses who have to face the casting couch, aspiring male actors too get trapped.

Now Bollywood has number of known & closet gay filmmakers & actors in addition to number of female directors & producers. There are young good-looking boys who claim to have met big directors and producers and bent to their wishes. They get hopeful of meaty roles, some do benefit but how the others are disheartened is another story in itself. The torment is harsh on boys as well. The embarrassment of people in the industry knowing their reality depresses them to even the extent of giving up on their dream to make it big in this bad world of Bollywood.

Now an A- lister, when actor Ranveer Singh was struggling, he was propositioned despite being from a family with filmy & finance connections. He exclaimed, “A coordinator called me for an audition where three gentlemen directly asked for favours. They kept using words like darling, tu toh bada sexy hai.” After rushing out, he did a bit of sleuthing to find out about the coordinator. “No one seemed to know this coordinator. A friend told me that such incidents usually happened in coffee shops, where boys or girls are asked to come to the washroom,” adds Ranveer.
