Everyone kept murmuring sweet nothings about Akshaye Khanna’s four year hiatus from acting. With amazing roles in Dishoom, Ittefaq & Mom last year, people definitely want to see him more on screen. Well, he is back to treat us again with another unique role. While Anupam Kher will be seen playing the lead role of former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Akshaye has been roped in to play Sanjaya Baru in the film ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’. For those unaware, Sanjaya Baru was the media advisor and chief spokesperson of then PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, who courted controversy when he wrote the memoir, The Accidental Prime Minister.
Talking about his role, Akshaye said, “I am thrilled and excited to be a part of a venture which will be path breaker, a game changer at many levels. I realised that it is a very important movie, whether I was a part of it or not was secondary. Even if my role was insignificant I would have still done it.” He further added that he hasn’t met Baru yet but admires the balance he has brought to the book on such a sensitive subject. He said, “The balance which he (Baru) gave to the book needs to be admired.”
Asked about eyebrows being raised at the making and especially the timing of the release, Khanna insisted “there is no agenda”. The Accidental Prime Minister is expected to release on December 21, 2018. Let’s wait and watch how many controversies this accidental Prime Minister draws!
He is also set to star in the movie ‘Section 375’. Section 375 in the Indian Penal Code seeks to define rape for legal purposes. The film is said to be inspired by 10 different real life cases and will have Akshaye and Richa Chadha playing lawyers.
